Course Description:
The Marketing & Management’s Capstone Course on Entrepreneurship (MMS 190) will be designed around the creation of a business plan. Business plans will be prepared in teams of three to four students and the same teams will use their insights from preparing their own plans to critique another teams’ plan at the end of the semester.  In addition to the business plan & critique, students will analyze business case studies.

While the creation of the business plans are started from the first day of class and the instructor discusses specific questions with business plan teams outside of class throughout the semester, class time is used as follows:

- the first three to four weeks of class are spent discussing the basics of starting a new business and the effect of entrepreneurship on the economy

- For the next eight to ten weeks, each week addresses a different business topic with a current event discussion of the topic on Tuesday and analysis of a case study on Thursday. The topics are : entrepreneurial financing; entrepreneurial psych/sociology; market segmentation; Break-even/business arithmetic; global markets; IPO’s/Investment banking; strategy

- one to two class sessions are set aside for the instructor to work with individual business plan teams on a rough draft of their plan

- the final weeks of the class are used to present each teams’ critique of another teams business plan.

You are encouraged to come up with your own business plan idea, but if your team is having trouble coming up with an idea spoeak with Evan

Case Studies:
Case Studies Assignments will be 1 page (1 page only) write-ups of the business case assigned. The assignment goal is to offer your opinion on how to act in the business situation presented. Consider yourself to be either a member of the management team or an outside consultant offering advice. Given the 1 page limit. do not re-cap the case, offer your solution to the situation.

Late papers, case studies, & projects: Assignments will not be accepted late. If you have a conflict, you should arrange for another student to hand in the assignment, e-mail the assignment to evan@brightleafpartners.com, or discuss the conflict with the professor in advance. One case study may be dropped or the worst grade reported will be dropped on the case studies.
